Finite-Element Analysis

ENDURE

Engineering Mechanics Research Corporation

ENDURE is a general-purpose program for analyzing fatigue life andfracture characteristics of engineering structures or components. Bothcrack initiation and propagation can be considered. Dynamic and randomload effects can also be included in the damage calculations. Thestress intensity factor, J-integral, and energy release rate are thefracture parameters which can be evaluated. In the crack initiation stage, fatigue damage is computed by a stress-based (S-N) or strain-based (E-N) approach. Load histories are processedby the rain-flow cycle counting algorithm. Cycle counts of a powerspectral density input are derived based on the probability distributionof peaks. A built-in material library gives the cyclic material responsefor fatigue analysis. In the crack propagation stage, fatigue damage is computed by choosing acrack-growth model such as Paris, Forman, Walker, Collipriest, Elber. Alibrary of crack configurations is built into the program so the user canchoose the most suitable one.ENDURE is currently interfaced with NISA II and NASTRAN.
